Definitive and structural characteristics of foreign language competence of future energy engineers
Abstract. The paper considers content and structure of foreign language competence as an integral part of the professional skills of modern energy professionals.
An analysis of scientific works shows that among researchers there is no unambiguous interpretation of the concept of «foreign language competence», due to the peculiarities of the future profession of higher education and the possibility of using a foreign language in solving professional problems. The author's definition of foreign language competence of future energy engineers has been given and it its structure has been characterized.
The personal, communicative and professional components of foreign language competence of energy specialty applicants have been singled out. It is determined that personal and professional qualities, individual characteristics, communication skills, educational and professional motives of higher education applicants are components of the personal component. It has been established that the basis for the communicative component is laid by linguistic, speech, socio-cultural, pragmatic competencies. It has been substantiated that the professional component is formed by professional, design and information competencies. Each of the selected competencies has been analysed.
Based on the pedagogical experiment, the levels of formation of structural components of foreign language competence of applicants for the specialty 141 «Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics» have been determined as communicative component – high level, personal component – medium level, professional component – low level. The experimental work was based on project and interactive learning technologies. Project tasks and an interactive course «Nicos Weg» were used as educational material.
The study found that foreign language competence of future energy engineers is an integral feature of personality, and the formation of its structural components depends on the motivational sphere, practical skills and abilities to integrate foreign and professional knowledge in communicative situations of a professional nature.
Definitive and structural characteristics of foreign language competence of applicants for educational Master’s degree specialty 141 «Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics» are made taking into account the peculiarities of professional training and the specifics of professional activities of future energy engineers.
